The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah

The most fundamental aggression to ourselves, the most fundamental harm we can do to ourselves, is to remain ignorant by not having the courage and the respect to look at ourselves honestly & gently. What I must do, is all that concerns me, not what people think. This rule, equally arduous in actual and  in intellectual life, may serve for the whole distinction between greatness & meanness. It is the harder, because you will always find those who think they know what is your duty better than you know it. It is easy in the world to live after the worlds opinion; it is easy in solitude to live after our own, but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd, keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude.

People waste so much energy trying to cover up who they are, when beneath every attitude is the want to be loved, & beneath every anger is a wound to be healed, & beneath every sadness is the fear that there will not be enough time. When you open your mind, you open new doors to new possibilities for yourself & new opportunities to help others. Diversity is an aspect of human existence that cannot be eradicated by terrorism or war or self-consuming hatred. It can only be conquered by recognising & claiming the wealth of values it represents for all.

In a true "You-and-I" relationship, we are present mindfully, non-intrusively, the way we are present with things in nature. We do not tell a birch tree, it should be more like an elm. We face it with no agenda, only an appreciation that becomes participation: "I love looking at the birch" becomes "I am this birch" and then "I and this birch are opening to a mystery that transcends "holds us both." Treat everyone you meet as if they were you.

It's good to have an end in mind but in the end what counts is how you travel. You push the TRUTH off a cliff, but it will always fly. You can submerge the TRUTH under water, but it will not drown. You can place the TRUTH in the fire, but it will not burn. You can bury the TRUTH beneath the ground, but it will arise. TRUTH always prevails!

You can be mindful by practising the core values such as refraining from killing, refraining from stealing, refraining from sexual misconduct, refraining from false speech, refraining from abuse, refraining from intoxicants to the point of heedlessness, etc. Remember, the golden rule- You are the biggest enemy of your own sleep.

Great people have three things:- inner light, inner vision, inner strength. They do not fall for the outside world, they are strong enough to do what is right and to openly acknowledge righteousness. There is no envy, no jealousy or hatred between the different colors of the rainbow and NO FEAR either, because each one exists to make the others love more beautiful. Finally, your actions are your only true belongings.
