Spiritual anatomy has long been grappling with the question regarding existence of divine powers, the beginning, of the universe. It is believed that the very first thing into existence, was a sound vibration, and thereafter, followed by the material world. “Om” is considered to be the first in existence.

Roots of “OM”

First found in Vedas, originating between 1500 – 1200 BC. “Om” is an iconography found in primordial era in spiritual retreats, temples, monasteries, coins, Vedic Sanskrit hymns, manuscripts of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism cultures. In Hinduism, it is referred to as the Atman (soul) and Brahman. It is widely used in spiritual texts such as Vedas, Upanishads, other texts and simple mantras. It is used in recitation of prayers. It is a spiritual mantra used in ceremonies such as weddings, house warming, religious functions, death, etc. Also used commonly in meditation and yoga practices. “Om Namah Shivaya” the most commonly used mantra in various traditional backgrounds.
