Why is it essential to have Lord Shani in our lives?

Shani refers to planet Saturn and is one of the nine heavenly objects known as Navagrah in hindu astrology. Shani is depicted as a deity whose iconography consists of a dark black figure carrying weapons and sitting on a crow or buffalo or vulture. He is considered inauspicious i.e. bringing bad luck. However, this is only a part of the reality misunderstood by many. Lord Shani is a great upholder of  justice & keeps an eye on every activity undertaken by any living being. He is the one who differentiates between the fair & unfair. Thus if one were to think broadly it's Lord Shani who holds our hands and teaches us the harsh realities of life, which ultimately takes us to the path of moksha. As our sufferings mount we soon realize that there are two ways in which we can respond to any situation - either we can react with bitterness or we can seek to transform the suffering into a creative force. It all depends on our choices. Lord Shani makes us realise that our sufferings are consequences of our choices. He makes us realise that we need to pay the cost of our decision.

As rightly said by Martin Luther King Jr.- "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice." Lord Shani is all about justice & fairness... which everyone misinterprets as unlucky or inauspicious, as they fail to realise the fact that Lord Shani teaches us to distinguish between right and wrong. Lord Shani loves us in real sense and thus teaches us things that we are unwilling to learn or things we don't realise that we need to learn. A good act does not wash out the bad, nor a bad act the good. Each should have it's own reward. He not only bandages the wound of victims beneath the wheels of injustice, he drives a spoke into the wheel itself. In keeping silent about evil, in bringing it so deep within us that no sign of it appears on the surface, we are implanting it, & it will rise up a thousand fold in the future. Justice can sleep for years and awaken when it is least expected. A miracle is nothing more than dormant justice from another time arriving to compensate those it has cruelly abandoned. Whoever knows this is willing to suffer, for he knows that nothing is in vain.

Every step towards the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering and struggle. It requires passion & dedication. It's not going to be an easy journey but will surely be worth it and a journey which not only leads to glory but also earns the individual respect & honour. In all debates, let truth be the aim and not victory.
