Happy Pi Day!

Pi Day was founded by Physicist Larry Shaw in 1988. Pi Day is celebrated on March 14 (3/14) around the world. Pi is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant- the ratio of the circumference of a circle to it's diameter- which is approximately 3.14159 Pie has been calculated to over one trillion digits beyond it's decimal point. As an irrational & transcendental number, it will continue infinitely without repetition or pattern.

Pi Day has been observed in many ways, including eating pie, throwing pies, & discussing the significance of the no. pi; due to a pun based on the words "pi" or "pie" being homophones in English. Pi is a homophone of pie- the two words are pronounced similarly but are spelled differently & mean different things. Albert Einstein's birthday also happen to fall on 14th March, so it can be said that 14 March is an educational day!

There are many other days during the year when one can honour pi. Pi Approximation Day is observed on July 22 (22/7). Some of the other relevant days are:-
March 4: The day marks the passing of 14% of the 3rd month of the year.
April 5: This day, 3.14 months of the year  have passed.
Nov. 10: The 314th day of the year (Nov. 9 in case of leap year)

Celebrate pie day by having lots of pie or have a pie baking contest. Ask participants to bake pi shaped pies. Combine it with pie eating competition. Embrace your geekness. Wear a t-shirt that has the numbers of pi. Eat foods that start with a pi, like pineapples & pizza, or foods that are circular in shape like cookies, pancakes etc. Enjoy & celebrate.
